What we do at CARAT

Over the years, we have discussed and written about what we do.  Here, we thought we would summarize what we do and why we do them that way. 

CARAT is a hedge fund (in the sub-category of CTAs) -- which tries to profit from the financial/futures markets.  In particular, our research -- and historical data -- has shown that profits can be earned in the futures markets (currencies & commodities), equities, and fixed income. As a result, we diversify and balance CARAT's portfolio in these sectors. 

Summary 

Within the currencies and commodities areas -- there are a number of different sub-sectors. Normally, when one sector does poorly, the other sector(s) have helped the overall portfolio. Over the past few years, our underperformance is partly a result of changing markets in the commodities and currencies.  In addition, the equity markets have had a very difficult time.

In total, we are disappointed with how we have done over the past few years.  However, are not discouraged.  We have revisited our fundamental ideas, approaches, and methods.  We have improved our trading methods.  And -- we have seen that what we are doing makes sense.
